A 25-year-old Baltimore man charged with first-degree murder was deemed competent to stand trial on June 1 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin

Dorrell Jackson is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a violent crime, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, having a handgun on his person and in a vehicle, and use of a deadly weapon with intent to injure in connection to an incident on Dec. 1, 2021.

In addition to being found competent to stand trial, Jackson was also found criminally responsible for the incident.

Jackson’s defense attorney, William Buie III, filed a request for a not criminally responsible (NCR) plea to have his client evaluated, which Judge Rasin granted.

According to a news release, Jackson is accused of fatally shooting 21-year-old Amir Whyee around 2:30 p.m. on the 500 block of Random Road. Baltimore Police Department officers were called to the scene where they found the victim, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Jackson’s next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 10.
