Editor’s note: Charges dismissed against the defendant in this case.
The case of a Baltimore man charged with a homicide was dismissed on Nov. 15, nearly six years after he allegedly shot another man to death.
Larry Winder, 29, was charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, illegal possession of a firearm, and having a handgun on his person in connection to the death of 26-year-old Davon Arnez Barrett on Nov. 18, 2015. Winder was charged in 2020.
On Monday, a courtroom clerk informed Baltimore Witness that the case was dismissed.
According to court documents, the shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m. on the 3200 block of Belair Road, where officers with the Baltimore Police Department found Barrett unresponsive on a sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and body. Medics pronounced Barrett dead less than 10 minutes later.
Evidence recovered from the scene included five .45 caliber cartridge casings on the sidewalk, one projectile, and one metal fragment found under Barrett’s body, the documents state.
The police investigation later revealed that Winder and Barrett got into an argument the day before the shooting and that Winder, who was seen by a witness, returned the following day and allegedly shot Barrett.
Winder was initially offered a plea of life, suspending all but 50 years, with five years of supervised probation, for first-degree murder in August, but the attorney standing in for defense attorney Marci Johnson told the court she was unsure if the offer had been relayed to the defendant.
