“What do you have to say for yourself?” Those were among the cries after the jury reached a guilty verdict for 22-year-old Daquan Woodard on Feb. 24.
Woodard was convicted for killing Odell Curtis, 40, and Ricardo Brooks-Watters, 32, in a 7-Eleven parking lot on the 4400 block of Belair Road on Feb. 7, 2024. He was charged with two counts each of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm.
The prosecution submitted video evidence of Baltimore Police Department (BPD) detectives interviewing Woodard. According to charging documents, Woodard admitted during the interview to the two victims.
The victims’ families will prepare impact statements for Woodward’s sentencing hearing on July 16. The prosecution advised the families to explain how the deaths of their loved ones affected their lives.
“This is the beginning, not the end,” the prosecution said. “I want you to be healthy.”
She encouraged the families to seek out grief resources and advised to avoid angry remarks toward the defendant.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer presided over the trial.
