A crime analyst testified the death of a woman was a homicide in a hearing on Sept. 26 in Baltimore City Circuit Court.

The defendant, 60-year-old Kenneth Craig, is charged with first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure for the death of his girlfriend 36-year-old Shakita Thomas in April 2023 on the 500 block of East Jeffrey Street.

“After doing an autopsy on Ms. Thomas’ body I determined there were 43 wounds that could only be caused by someone cutting her,” the forensic scientist said.

“Some of the wounds on her were very brutal, with one of them cutting four inches deep,” said the analyst concluding the cause was homicide.

The prosecution used both the forensic scientist’s testimony and the fact that Craig’s DNA was found at the scene of the crime of Craig’s guilt..

Craig’s defense attorney, Natalie Finegar, refuted the prosecution’s claims, saying that while Craig’s DNA was likely found at the scene of the crime, it was possible that his DNA would have already been on Thomas since they were dating and in close contact.

Craig’s case was heard before Judge Hope Tipton.
