A 50-year-old man accused of the attempted murder of his 22-year-old son appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller and was denied bail awaiting trial on June 25.

Scott Brooks, father of three children, is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment and firing and discharging a firearm in relation to an incident on May 18. There were no reported injuries.

Brooks’ attorney asked he be released on bail as he has no prior conditions, no failures to appear and is not a flight risk. The defense alleged that Brooks’ son suffered from mental health conditions and drug-induced psychosis as a result of excessive use of synthetic marijuana, and following the incident, he returned to the family home and totaled his father’s car.

The prosecution requested that Brooks’ bail status not be changed.

The court ruled that given the nature and seriousness of allegations and the court’s inability to knowingly keep Brooks apart from his son, he would be denied bail.

A Baltimore Police Department press release stated that Brooks allegedly shot at a 22-year-old man on the 6900 block of Moyner Avenue following a dispute.
