“My client is innocent, and do not let the state convict an innocent man,” said a defense attorney to a Baltimore City Circuit Court jury during opening statements at his client’s murder trial June 4.
Michael Tomko, is representing 24-year-old Darrean Fleming, who is charged with four counts including the first-degree murder of 20-year-old man Amare Burruss in December 2022 on the 4200 block of Pimlico Road, as well as conspiracy to commit murder with co-defendants Garry Morris and Wesley Lambert, firearm use in a felony violent crime and having a handgun in a vehicle.
Fleming, Morris and Lambert were allegedly parked in a gray Acura TL vehicle at the 4200 block of Pimlico Road, when one of them got out of the vehicle and shot Burruss in the head, according to a police report.
The prosecution in their opening statement said they believed that Fleming committed Burruss’s murder and that they’ll show the jury that Fleming is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Fleming’s trial will continue Wednesday before Judge Troy K. Hill.
