A 41-year-old Baltimore man’s trial began before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kimberly McBride on March 25, with counsel debating whether the fatal stabbing was an act of self-defense.
Fielding Bame is charged with second-degree murder and intent to injure with a dangerous weapon in connection to the death of 48-year-old D’Ondre Quickly. Both men are homeless, and a press release from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) labeled Bame a “repeat violent offender.”
According to the prosecution, Bame and Quickly engaged in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical fight on July 12, 2024, on the 100 block of North Front Street.
Quickly attacked Bame, who stabbed Quickly. Bame fled the scene on his bike.
Quickly died from his injuries eight days later.
“You have a duty to retreat before raising force to a lethal level,” the prosecution said.
Defense attorney Jason Rodriguez said, “After Quickly attacks Bame twice – after he swings his belt twice –Bame acts in self defense.”
The trial is expected to continue into March 26.
