In opening statements on Jan. 22 lawyers presented different narratives about whether Daquan Parker, 27, was responsible for the fatal shooting of Rasheed Lindsey, 19. The incident occurred on March. 9, 2024 on the 5000 block of Pembridge Avenue.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Nicole Barmore presided over the case.
Parker is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, the use of a firearm to commit a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use a firearm to commit a felony violent crime, and possession of a handgun.
The prosecutor says that among the witnesses, one would testify seeing Parker commit the murder, and could identify him.
In terms of physical evidence, several firearms were allegedly found underneath the stove in Parker’s apartment. However, there was no DNA recovered on the weapons
Police seized a phone, allegedly belonging to Parker with an image of him and a friend, who was holding a handgun. All activity on the phone stopped about an hour before the murder.
Defense attorney Hunter Pruette suggested that “they rushed this,” citing that the police investigation only took five days. “Rush to judgement, and investigations fall apart,” said Pruette.
Pruette stated it was dark and raining on the night of the incident, and unlikely the witness could have positively identified Parker.
Pruette also said that it would have been irrational for Parker to place the guns in such an obvious place.
The trial will continue on the following week.
