The absence of an attorney for the public defender’s office forced a Baltimore City Circuit Court judge to postpone the start of trial for a Baltimore man accused of attempted murder on Feb. 3.
A stand-in defense attorney informed the court that attorney James Sweeting III was in trial for a different case.
Judge Melissa Phinn elected to continue the hearing for defendant Larry Jackson until Jan. 19 for rescheduling.
According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Jackson is expected to begin trial on June 5.
Jackson, 32, is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in felony violent crime, two counts of having a handgun on his person, two counts of having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, and three counts of firearm possession with felony conviction in connection with an incident that occurred on July 23, 2022.
