Defense counsel for a 44-year-old woman accused of shooting at someone who allegedly attempted to steal her dog argued that the defendant’s husband pulled the trigger in a non-fatal shooting.
During a bail review hearing on April 26 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Philip S. Jackson, a defense attorney standing in for Brandon Mead said the defendant’s dog was tied up outside in her yard when another person with more dogs attempted to take the defendant’s dog on Feb. 5.
The dog’s were all fighting, she said, and the defendant’s husband allegedly fired a gun.
The defendant is charged with discharging firearms, having a handgun on her person, illegal possession of a firearm and ammo, and firearm possession with drugs.
On Tuesday, the prosecution countered that most of the incident was captured on video surveillance and that there was no indication anyone was trying to steal the defendant’s dog. Instead, she said, the defendant and her husband allegedly came outside armed with handguns and fired multiple times.
The guns were never found at their home, the prosecutor said, however, ammunition was found.
Judge Jackson denied bail. The defendant is scheduled to appear in reception court on Sept. 1.
