On March 28, a 43-year-old man pled guilty to the murder of Dwayne Maxwell during his hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn Stewart Mays

According to the assistant state’s attorney, on May 31, 2020, defendant Bright Ogueri turned himself in to law enforcement officers after admitting to doing something to his roommate without providing specific details. Upon arriving at the location provided by Ogueri, officers on the scene located Maxwell, 38, on the dining room floor.

According to the autopsy report, Maxwell suffered approximately nine close-range gunshot wounds to the head, which caused the brain to liquify before it could be analyzed by the medical examiner.

Ogueri, 40, alleged that Maxwell hit his son across the face, which prompted the confrontation.

Upon interviewing the child, officers were unable to confirm if this incident took place.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Ogueri was convicted of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a violent crime, and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction.

Avie Stone, who represents the defendant, requested that the court recommend Ogueri be placed in a facility with mental health resources. Ogueri informed the court that he has experienced “nightmares” since the incident.

Judge Mays affirmed that she would submit this recommendation if “it would require a court order.”

The defendant will return on March 29 for sentencing before Judge Mays.
