A defendant pleaded guilty to assault on Sept. 29 and accepted a plea for 25 years before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams.
Defense counsel Rodney Gray and the defendant Jerrod Jones accepted a plea Sept. 29 for 25 years, suspending all but five years with three years supervised probation for first-degree assault. The defendant also received a sentence of five years without parole for the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime. The prison term is set to run concurrently to the term for the assault charge.
Jones, 29, was initially charged with first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person and discharging firearms in connection to an incident on Sept. 14, 2021.
According to the prosecution, on Sept. 14 a man was found on North Monastery Avenue suffering from gunshot wounds. A prior witness to the incident said she saw Jones punching the victim, dropping his gun in this fight, and then shooting the victim at close range.
Jones denied these allegations until Dec. 22 when he confessed to the Baltimore Police Department that he was guilty of these crimes, said the prosecutor.
Judge Williams ordered a summons for the defendant on Oct. 11, to hear his sentencing.
