On April 19, a Baltimore citizen who spent over a quarter of century in prison for murder appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Ausby for an update on his re-entry to society.

Jason Louis Murdock was found guilty on Jan. 7, 2002, of first-degree murder, the use of a handgun in commission of a crime of violence, and having a handgun on his person in connection to the murder of 45-year-old Byong Wan Pan on the 4400 block of Old York during an attempted robbery on Nov. 1 1997.

Defense attorney Robert Brennen said that the 41-year-old defendant was having a difficult time finding a job, but is in driving school and has earned his learner’s permit. He is staying in the group home until the program is complete.

Murdock’s case manager said the defendant is doing well, does what he is told, and has created no issues.

Brennen also mentioned how Murdock continues to be a part of a “No Struggle, No Success” program, which discourages new offenses by former offenders.

Murdock’s next hearing was scheduled for May 17.
