On Jan. 3, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer sentenced a Baltimore man to five years in prison for assault.
On May 19, 2022, Reginald McGowan pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and possessing a firearm with a drug conviction in connection to an incident on Nov. 29, 2021.
According to court documents, on the day of the incident, officers were called to the 1800 block of McHenry Street in the Riverside neighborhood around 5:15 p.m. for reports of a shooting. The police were notified that there was an incident between two siblings where a man shot his sister.
McGowan, 38, was also charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault, the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, illegal possession of ammo, discharging firearms, and reckless endangerment.
Judge Schiffer sentenced the defendant to 20 years, suspending all but five years with two years supervised probation for first-degree assault and a concurrent five years for possessing a firearm with a drug conviction.
Upon release, the defendant must also register as a gun offender.
