A 39-year-old Baltimore man charged with attempted murder began trial after rejecting a plea offer on April 5 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn.
Jermaine Davis is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction and having a handgun within 100 yards of the public in connection to an incident on Aug. 2, 2021.
On Tuesday, Judge Phinn listened as the prosecutor presented a plea of 25 years for second-degree attempted murder, 15 years for use of a firearm during a violent crime, and five years without the possibility of parole. The sentences were set to run consecutively to the sentence the defendant received for his possession of a firearm with a felony conviction.
Under the plea, the defendant must register as a gun offender.
Davis, and his defense attorney Natalie Finegar, rejected the plea.
According to a press release, Jermaine Davis, 39, was arrested for allegedly shooting a 29-year-old male multiple times on Aug. 2 on the 2500 block of Edmondson Avenue. The victim was transported to an area hospital.
According to the police, the shooting occurred after a verbal dispute.
Initially, Davis’ trial was scheduled for trial Dec. 5 but it was quickly changed to April 5 with Judge Anthony F. Vittoria presiding.
