Defendant Accused of Shooting at 3 People Rejects Plea Offer

On July 12 , a 32-year-old homicide defendant rejected a plea offer in reception court before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland

Jamal Smith is charged with first-degree murder, three counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, two counts each of  attempted first-degree murder and first-degree-assault and having a handgun on his person in connection to an incident on June 16, 2022. stood in for Smith’s defense attorney John Cox. 

The prosecution’s plea offer to Smith was life, suspending all but 60 years, with 10 years of supervised probation for first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime and attempted first-degree murder.

Natalie Finegar, Smith’s defense attorney, rejected the plea offer on his behalf. 

The four-day trial is scheduled to begin on Oct. 22 before Judge Videtta A. Brown

According to a Baltimore Police Department press release, on Jan. 22, detectives believe that Smith participated in the shooting of three people on the 200 block of Redwood Street, resulting in the death of 25-year-old Ryan Harris
