A jury has acquitted Singelton Duppins of the remaining charges in connection to his older brother’s murder after another three-day jury trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy.

The 22-year-old defendant was found not guilty of second-degree murder on Oct. 25—a lesser included offense of the first-degree murder charge for which he was acquitted in June. He was also found not guilty of second-degree assault and a verdict was not rendered for firearm use in a felony or violent crime.

Following Duppins’ first trial over the summer, the jury found the defendant guilty of being a minor in possession of a firearm, with Judge Kendra Y. Ausby handing down a sentence of three years that amounted to time served.

Defense attorney Roland Brown represented Duppins at both trials.

On Feb. 28, 2020, Duppins and his 26-year-old brother, Graham Blake, were in the family home’s basement on the 2500 block of Gibbons Avenue when their parents heard gunfire. During the second trial, Duppins and Blake’s mother testified she could smell smoke lingering in the basement and attempted to keep the defendant from leaving the house. Duppins’ was also accused of knocking out his father.

An autopsy found Blake was shot in the back of his head with blunt force trauma to his forehead and an amputated finger that police say was bitten by Duppins.
