During a Dec. 1 reception court hearing, Baltimore City Circuit Judge Melissa Phinn presided over counsels as a defendant accused of attempted murder rejected a plea offer posed by the prosecution.
David Chapple, 21, is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, two counts each of first-degree and second-degree assault, and two counts of firearm use during a violent crime in connection to an incident on May 22.
At the proceeding, the prosecution proposed a plea deal involving 20 years suspend all but 5 years without the the possibility of parole and no contact with the victim in exchange for a guilty plea to attempted first-degree murder.
In response, Chapple’s defense attorney, James Sweeting, declined this offer.
Parties then scheduled an April 6, 2023, trial date, when they will reconvene and determine Chapple’s fate.
