A 30-year-old man accused of attempted murder accepted a plea of time served with two years supervised probation on April 18 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer

Edward Jerod Smith is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm during a violent crime, having a handgun on his person, and having a loaded handgun in a vehicle in connection to an incident May 5, 2020.

On Monday, Judge Schiffer listened as the prosecutor presented a plea of five years suspending all, but time served with two years of supervised probation for second-degree assault.

Under the plea, the defendant must stay away from the victim.

Smith was represented by defense attorney Richard Arnold.

According to court documents, on May 5, 2020, officers were called to 17 Lake Street for reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival police saw a car driving away with the victim Terrell Meadows, who was holding a gun outside a hotel. After being told to drop the gun, he explained to police that he had been assaulted by the defendant and that the gun belonged to him too.

The gun went off causing the defendant to flee the scene.
