The chart above shows the speed of our court system in 2023. Though the Baltimore Police Department reported 240 incidents of homicides, they only made 45 arrests related to those incidents within the year. For the homicide cases that progressed to Baltimore City Circuit Court, there were zero convictions or guilty pleas.
Despite 2023’s significant drop in homicides, the reduced case load did not result in greater intra-annual arrest or closure rates.
