“You know who is responsible,” said the prosecutor in closing statements in front of the jury and Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams on April 26.

Levar Cooper, 45, is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in his vehicle on a public road and possessing a firearm with a felony conviction in connection to the killing of 43-year-old Larry Alvin Randall, Jr on May 10, 2021.

According to previous coverage, the police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Washington Boulevard where they found Randall suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

“Mr. Cooper made that decision [to kill the victim] himself,” the prosecutor said. The prosecutor showed surveillance footage from the scene, identifying a car that was allegedly rented to the defendant. The car was also cleaned after the incident, indicating guilt says the prosecutor. The defendant’s fingerprints were allegedly found on the gas cap of the car.

Cooper’s defense attorney Catherine Flynn argued that the surveillance footage simply wasn’t enough, and the defendant could not be identified. She maintained the witnesses that testified against Cooper were high on drugs during the incident and therefore were not reliable identifying the defendant.  Cooper’s two previous trials ended in hung juries.
