Citing Dangerousness, Judge Deems Homicide Defendant Incompetent For Trial

A 25-year-old murder defendant was found mentally incompetent to stand trial, and he was deemed a danger to himself and others. 

Ajay Wiggins,, is charged with first-degree murder in connection to a homicide that occurred on Nov 15, 2024, during which he allegedly strangled his mother, 64-year-old Joyce Gaskins in their home on the 1600 block of Druid Hill Avenue.

In a Jan. 29 hearing Wiggins told the Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Raisin. that his name is Micheal Wiggins, even though official records identify him as Ajay Wiggins. 

Judge Rasin ruled that Wiggins was incompetent to stand trial in that he doesn’t understand the charges against him; he was also found to be a danger to himself and others. 

Wiggins will be hospitalized at a future date.

Judge Rasin also ordered that Wiggins undergo an annual mental health review, the first on Feb. 4. Wiggins next court appearance is on Feb. 7.
