An attempted murder case against two Baltimore men was dismissed by prosecutors, on Sept. 25 in connection to an assault and shooting on East Pratt Street last October.
Jossue Enrique Portillo Ruiz, 20, and Miguel Angel Riva Salvador, 22, were each facing several attempted murder, assault, weapons and conspiracy charges for the shooting on Oct. 24, 2022.
According to court documents, the victim and his friends were inside a car parked on the 6300 block of East Pratt Street where a black SUV pulled up. The suspects got out of the SUV, approached the group’s car and forced one of the occupants—who wasn’t the victim—out of the car.
A witness told Baltimore Police Department (BPD) detectives that Salvador shot the victim in his left leg when he attempted to break up the fight.
Ruiz was charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, accessory after the fact to first and second-degree murder, conspiracy to first-degree murder, conspiracy to first-degree assault, conspiracy to firearm use in a felony or violent crime, conspiracy to having a handgun on his person and having a handgun in a vehicle.
Salvador was facing the same charges, except for accessory after the fact to first and second-degree murder, as well as discharging a firearm, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, having a handgun on his person, reckless endangerment and an additional count of having a handgun gun in a vehicle.
Ruiz was represented by defense attorney Brandon Taylor, who stood in for James Sweeting III, during the case’s dismissal, while Salvador was represented by Victoria Kawecki. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gregory Sampson presided over the proceedings.
