On July 17, defendant Laquawn Foster pleaded guilty to charges in connection to an August 2022 non-fatal shooting incident before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Martin H. Schreiber II.
This was the second agreement offered to the 30-year-old defendant. Defense attorney Martin Cohen successfully negotiated a sentence 15 years less than the previous offer, which his client rejected on Mar. 22.
For first-degree attempted murder, Foster agreed to life, suspending all but 20 years, followed by five years of supervised probation. On the charge of firearm use in the commission of a felony violent crime, he received 20 years to be served concurrently to his attempted murder sentence, the first five years without the possibility of parole and with credit for time served since Aug. 19, 2022.
Police arrested Foster and charged him with the shooting of a 29-year-old man multiple times on the 1200 block of Bernard Drive.
Foster is also ordered to stay away from the victim and to register as a gun offender. The prosecution dropped all other charges, which had included first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, having a handgun on his person and discharging firearms.
Judge Schreiber recommended Foster to mental health care within the Department of Corrections.
