A 20-year-old Baltimore woman rejected Baltimore City prosecution’s plea of life for first-degree murder on Dec. 21 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.

Aiyahnah Burke is charged with three counts of first-degree murder as well as multiple assault and weapons charges for allegedly shooting 31-year-old Vernelle Tavon Moton to death on April 8 on the 800 block of N. Glover Street, according to Fox45 News.

On Tuesday, the prosecutor offered Burke the plea to life, which was rejected by defense attorney Martin Cohen on behalf of his client. Cohen then advised Burke to waive her Hicks’ date, which is a defendant’s right to be tried within 180 days of their first court appearance.

The prosecution and Cohen agreed on a trial date of June 8, 2022.
