On March 21, David Boyd appeared in court before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. WIlliams for closing arguments in his attempted murder trial.

The 43-year-old defendant is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person and discharging firearms.

The assistant state’s attorney said the defendant–formerly the victims’s roommate–and victim initially started their conversation inside Boyd’s car. The two then decided to continue the conversation inside the defendant’s residence, at which point, the defendant went inside and pulled out a pistol and allegedly shot the victim in the leg. The entry wound found on the victim is consistent with the victim’s statement of the shots being fired from just feet away.

Thus the prosecution suggested this case came down to a matter of credibility. And Boyd’s statement was always evolving, she said, as he at first denied he was in the house up until the police presented evidence that he was there.

Defense attorney Janet Andersen argued back, highlighting there were several instances where the victim also lied. The victim initially denied he had a cross-body bag on him until the defense showed video footage of him on that day.

Also, the victim did not give Boyd’s name to the Baltimore Police Department (BDD)  investigator immediately after he got shot. Considering the victim, who is currently homeless, used to live at the same address as Boyd, Andersen asserted the victim blamed the defendant for losing his house and fired a shot at himself.

According to a BPD press release, officers responded to a shooting report on North Anne Street, where they found a 29-year-old victim who had a gunshot wound to his left leg. Further investigation led to Boyd’s arrest on Nov. 7, 2022.
