A 19-year-old Baltimore man will spend the next 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder on Aug. 29 in Baltimore City Circuit Court.
The case of Trenton Fleming was expected to go to trial Monday morning, but instead, ended with a guilty plea. The defendant, who was facing a life sentence for attempted murder among other charges, appeared before Judge Martin Schreiber alongside his defense attorney, John Cox.
The incident occurred on Dec. 3, 2021, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.
During the proceedings, Fleming accepted a guilty plea of 30 years, suspending all but 12 years, and five years of supervised probation upon his release for attempted second-degree murder; a concurrent 12 years, the first five years without parole, for firearm use during a felony violent crime; and a concurrent three years for having a handgun on his person. He must also register as a gun offender.
Judge Schreiber said the defendant will serve his sentence at the Patuxent Youth Program for defendants under 21 years old.
Cox then advised his client that he has 30 days to appeal his case or bring it before a three-judge panel, who can increase, decrease, or maintain his sentence. The defendant also has up to 90 days to ask the judge to modify his sentence.
