On Jan. 30, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland was again unable to schedule a trial for a 24-year-old attempted murder defendant and continued the hearing for the second time in the same month.
Kyre Redd-Harris is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, discharging a firearm within Baltimore City, carrying a handgun within 100 yards of the public and illegal possession of ammunition in connection to an April 2023 incident.
Per previous reporting, Redd-Harris’ attorney, James L. Rhodes, can’t try the case due to his recent judicial appointment to Baltimore County Circuit Court. Rhodes filed a motion to strike his appearance from the case on Jan. 16, but it has not yet been ruled on by Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer.
Redd-Harris told the court he applied to the Office of the Public Defender, but he has not heard back.
Judge Copeland was reluctant to schedule a trial date without an attorney representing Redd-Harris. She agreed to continue the hearing to Feb. 29 as the prosecutor suggested.
According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Redd-Harris is accused of shooting a man behind the Checkers restaurant on the 6600 block of Reisterstown Road during a drug transaction.
