A Baltimore resident facing attempted murder charges rejected a 30-year plea in prison on Feb. 24 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn

Isaac Baylis and his defense counsel Isabel Lipman, rejected a plea of life, suspending all but thirty years for first-degree attempted murder and a concurrent five years for the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime.

Baylis, 37, is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, two counts of possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, possession of firearms during a controlled dangerous substance offense, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, and discharging firearms in connection to an incident on Aug. 27, 2022.

According to a news release, on the day of the incident, officers were called to the 700 block of Glenwood Avenue for reports of shots being fired. On arrival, officers found a 39-year-old man suffering from a gunshot.

During Friday’s hearing, Lipman called the prosecutor’s case “weak,” saying there was no ballistic evidence found at the scene that proves the defendant committed the crime.

Baylis’ trial is scheduled for June 27, with Judge Robert Taylor presiding. It is expected to last three days.
