A 21-year-old Baltimore man accused of attempted murder rejected a plea offer on April 5 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn

Ronald Gray is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm as a minor, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person, and discharging a firearm within Baltimore city in connection to an incident on Sept. 12, 2021.

During court on Tuesday, Judge Phinn listened as the prosecutor presented a plea of 50 years suspending all but 30 years with five years on probation for first-degree attempted murder and five years without parole for use of a firearm during a violent crime. The charges are set to run concurrently.

Under the plea, the defendant must stay away from the victim and register as a gun offender. In addition, Gray decided to waive his Hicks date, which is his right to be tried within 180 days of her first court appearance.

Gray, and his defense attorney Creston Smith, rejected the plea.

According to CBS Baltimore, on Sept. 12, 2021, officers were called to the 2800 block of Pulaski Highway for reports of a shooting, where they found a 47-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

An argument preempted the shooting, said police.

Gray’s trial is scheduled for July 22 with Judge Phillip S. Jackson presiding.
