A 31-year-old attempted murder defendant received a 2025 trial date after a week of delays forced his lawyer to ask for a postponement Oct. 4.

Larry Winder III is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, having a handgun on his person, discharging a firearm within Baltimore City and firearm use in a felony violent crime for his alleged involvement in an August 2023 shooting on the 4800 block of Beaufort Avenue.

Counsel were originally slated to start trial on Oct. 1, but preliminary procedural issues delayed the case. In Baltimore City Circuit Court, defense attorney Roland Harris requested a postponement from Judge Melissa K. Copeland due to upcoming scheduling conflicts. The prosecutor added that she was also scheduled to begin another case the next day court would be in session.

Considering counsel’s scheduling issues, Judge Copeland found good cause for the postponement and rescheduled Winder’s trial to begin on Jan. 7, 2025.
Winder’s previous trial ended with a hung jury in May.
