Attempted murder defendant, Tionn Casey was found guilty on July 18 of first-degree assault for shooting an apartment maintenance worker three times.
Casey, 42, was convicted of first-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, and discharging firearms in Baltimore City in connection to an incident on Aug. 13, 2021.
Casey admitted to shooting the victim when he testified.
His defense attorney Brandon Taylor explained the events of the shooting weren’t being debated. Instead, Taylor said the shooting was in self-defense.
Casey claimed the victim lunged at him after a verbal confrontation; however, the victim denied this, saying he was trying to exit the apartment as his work was concluded and Casey had asked him to leave.
Hearing the testimony of both individuals and several others, the jury found that the use of force by Casey was not reasonable and didn’t meet the criteria for self-defense.
Casey’s sentencing has not yet been determined, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.
