Attempted Murder Defendant Accepts Plea, Judge Sentences Him to Nine Years in Prison

On Dec. 7, an attempted murder defendant plead guilty before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Martin H. Schrieber.

Judge Schrieber sentenced Kevin Waters to three years for wearing and carrying a handgun on his person; a consecutive one year for discharging a firearm; and a consecutive five years for reckless endangerment. Upon release, the defendant must register as a gun offender.

Waters, 28, was charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime wearing and carrying a handgun on his person, discharging a firearms, and reckless endangerment in connection to an incident on March 10.

According to a news release, at 5:13 p.m. patrol officers were called to the 500 block of Robert Street to investigate a reported shooting. On arrival officers found a 28-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds.

“The person forced my hand and I had to shoot or else lose my life,” said Waters as he described why he shot at the victim. “I know I was wrong for what I did. I’m not making any excuses.”
