A Baltimore man rejected a plea offer on Nov. 8 in connection to an attempted murder in September 2020.
Hughie Martin, 33, is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle, and discharging firearms.
The alleged shooting occurred on Sept. 25, 2020, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.
On Monday, the prosecution offered Martin a plea of 15 years, suspending all but four to nine years, which is stipulated within the sentence guidelines. The time he would serve has yet to be determined.
Under the plea, Martin would also have to stay away from the victim and the victim’s restaurant. However, the defendant and his defense attorney, Warren Brown, rejected the offer.
The defendant previously rejected the same offer on Oct. 25.
Martin also chose to waive his Hick’s date, which is his right to be tried within 180 days of his first court appearance.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled Martin’s case to return to reception court on April 18, 2022.
