A 26-year-old Baltimore man accused of murdering a pregnant woman and her 3-year-old daughter rejected two concurrent life sentences for each killing on Dec. 15.

Devon Sample, who is represented by defense attorney Roland Brown, was charged with multiple counts of murder in addition to committing a crime of violence against a pregnant person following the incident on June 18, 2020. The bodies of Shiand Miller, her unborn son, and her daughter, Shaniya Gilmore, were found inside a car on the 200 block of Boswell Street, CBS reported.

On Thursday, the prosecution offered Sample a life sentence for each of the two counts of first-degree murder in addition to no parole, which the defendant and his attorney rejected.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn scheduled a seven-day trial to begin on April 4, 2023, before Judge John Howard.
