Shortly after attorneys finished selecting a panel in 32-year-old Robert Johnson’s case, the defendant chose to accept a reduced plea deal on June 16.
Johnson pleaded guilty to one count each of first-degree assault and firearm use in a felony violent crime. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lynn S. Mays then sentenced Johnson to five mandatory years in prison with no parole, along with anger management counseling. Upon release, he will be required to register as a gun offender and maintain no contact with the victim.
On Nov. 7, 2025, Johnson shot at another person’s vehicle near the 2500 block of Wilkens Avenue. In an impact statement, the victim told the court Johnson shot at his car after he did not let him merge into his lane.
The victim also shared that he had to undergo therapy after the incident, as well as his wife who was on the phone with him when Johnson shot his car.
“I have no remorse for him whatsoever,” said the victim, adding that he wanted Johnson to be punished to the full extent of the law.
Johnson initially refused the plea, leading the court to proceed with jury selection. However, Johnson and his defense attorney, John Deros, ultimately decided to accept the agreement.
