Accused Shooter Rejects Plea Offer, Gets December Trial

A non-fatal shooting case from an incident earlier this year was scheduled for trial this December following the defendant’s decision to reject a plea offer on Oct. 16.

During reception court before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn, Jermall Mayo rejected the prosecutor’s offer of four years for having a handgun on his person and a concurrent one year for firing a gun in Baltimore City in addition to registering as a gun offender. Mayo, alongside defense attorney Michael Cooper, rejected the offer.

Counsel scheduled Mayo’s one-day trial for Dec. 18 before Judge Jeannie J. Hong.

According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Mayo will also face charges of firearm use in a felony or violent crime, second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property valued at $1,000, firearm possession, firearm and drug trafficking crime as well as two counts of possessing narcotics in connection to the shooting on June 23.
