A motion to dismiss attempted murder charges made by defense attorney Augustine Okeke was accepted on Feb. 12 by Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Anthony F. Vittoria.
Okeke’s client, Dashawn Raynard Carter, 22, was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, possession of a firearm in a controlled dangerous substance offense, having a loaded handgun on his person, reckless endangerment and discharging firearms in connection to a Feb. 16, 2022, incident.
The assistant state’s attorney told Judge Vittoria that she had not had any contact with the victim and said they the individual was largely uncooperative.
According to previous reporting, the victim knew Carter as his assailant from a previous armed robbery and identified him to police while in the hospital. Carter allegedly shot the victim as he was entering his home on the 1600 block of Mullikin Court.
Judge Vittoria made the decision to dismiss Carter’s attempted murder charges with the possibility of re-indictment when the prosecution is able to bring a stronger case against him. His trial was originally set for Feb. 12.
