A non-fatal shooting defendant accepted a plea deal on Jan. 31 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Alan C. Lazerow.

Devin Wallace, 27, will serve seven years, the first five years without the possibility for parole for his role in the killing of 20-year-old Jerric Michie that occurred on April 4, 2022.

Wallace was charged with firearm possession with a felony conviction, possession of firearm with a drug conviction, having a handgun on his person, discharging a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and reckless endangerment.

Surveillance footage from CCTV cameras show Wallace and another unidentified individual allegedly opening fire on the intersection of Monument and Port Street. Wallace’s shots are not believed to be the ones responsible for Michie’s death.

Wallace, represented by Jerry Tarud, pleaded guilty to firearm possession with a felony conviction, which holds a maximum sentence of 15 years.

As proceedings ended, Judge Lazerow told the defendant he got “a hell of a deal” and is lucky he still has a long life ahead of him upon his release. Wallace expressed remorse for his involvement in the incident and apologized to his family directly.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to the scene on the 2400 block of Monument Street upon hearing gunshots. Michie was found shot on the 600 block of Port Street and later succumbed to his injuries.
