A 45-year-old man’s sentencing for a shooting in West Baltimore’s Madison Park last year was postponed for the second time on Dec. 19.
Wardell Richardson was acquitted of attempted second-degree murder in June, but found guilty of first-degree assault, having a handgun on his person, firearm use in a felony violent crime, discharging firearms and firearm possession with a felony conviction.
His conviction stems from an incident on March 21, 2022, when he was in a shootout with another man.
On Tuesday, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Erik S. Atas said there was some confusion as to whether Richardson’s case was going to be held remotely or in person, and the defendant was not transported to court. The prosecution and defense attorneys Robert Cohen and Janet Andersen agreed to postpone the sentencing to Jan. 19, 2024, at 1 p.m.
Richardson was in a relationship with the mother of the victim’s children at the time of the shooting. The defendant fired two shots at the victim after which the victim fired back and shot Richardson in the leg. The shooting occurred near the 300 block of Bloom Street and 2000 block of Eutaw Place.
