On Nov. 29, Baltimore City Circuit Court Melissa M. Phinn scheduled the trial of a 52-year-old attempted murder defendant.

Zarzine Wardlaw is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime and two rifle/shotgun possession charges in connection to a May 22 incident.

The stand-in prosecutor offered Wardlaw 55 years, suspending all but 30 years, for attempted first-degree murder and a concurrent five years without the possibility of parole for firearm use in a felony violent crime. He would also be required to serve five years of probation upon release.

Wardlow’s attorney, Phillip Levin, told the court he relayed the offer and Wardlow rejected it. He added that because he received a “voluminous” amount of evidence from the prosecution on Monday, he would not be ready for a trial set in the near future. Levin went on to say that the case could resolve in December pending further plea negotiations.

Judge Phinn scheduled Wardlaw’s three-day trial as a backup case to Rico Blick’s trial before Judge Dana M. Middleton on April 2, 2024.
