A West Baltimore attempted murder defendant rejected a plea deal in front of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on Sept. 14.

Shelmon, 20, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of ammunition, having a loaded handgun on his person and having a handgun on his person in connection to a March 17 incident.

Dareese Shelmon was offered a life sentence, suspending all but 50 years, with five years of supervised probation, for attempted first-degree murder; for firearm use in a felony violent crime, a 20 year sentence, the first five without the possibility of parole; for firearm possession with a felony conviction, a 15 year sentence, the first five years without the possibility of parole. The sentences for the firearm charges would run consecutively to each other, but concurrently to the attempted murder sentence.

Judge Phinn continued Shelmon’s hearing to Oct. 20 to schedule his trial. Shelmon is represented by Janet Andersen and Robert Cohen.
