On Aug. 30, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled a trial date for a defendant who is accused of committing an attempted murder in 2022.
Defendant Salim Williams was scheduled to begin trial on Wednesday with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthis H. Jones presiding
The case was sent to reception court for a new trial date, with the new trial being scheduled from Oct. 18 to Oct. 20. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Paul E. Alpert is expected to preside over the case.
According to Baltimore Witness, on Sept. 23, 2022, Williams, 23 at the time, and his codefendant, Daejon Malloy, were arrested after a witness reported her house had been shot at multiple times. The witness stated that the pair were attempting to shoot at her son, who had gotten into a fight earlier that day at school.
Baltimore Witness reported that the two defendants rejected pleas back in April, Malloy’s trial date was set for Sept. 11 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby.
As reported by documents from the District Court of Maryland, Williams and Malloy, 19, were collectively charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, firearm possession with felony conviction, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, loaded handgun on person and in vehicle, discharging a firearm, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony crime, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, and malicious destruction of property with value less than 1,000. Due to his age, Malloy was also charged with possession of a firearm as a minor.
