Defendant Devon Young appeared in reception court on Aug. 29 with his previous defense attorney, Henry Barnes. Barnes stated that Young had requested for another attorney to represent him.

Barnes mentioned that Young had reached out to the Office of Public Defenders himself, but had not heard back. In response, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn reached out to the Office of Public Defenders in order to see if they could look into the case.

Phinn also struck Barnes’ appearance from the case. As a result, the hearing was continued for another two weeks so that Young may receive a new defense attorney.

The new scheduling hearing date was set for Sept. 14.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Young is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, firearm possession with a felony conviction and firearm use with a felony conviction.

Baltimore Witness explained that the incident that took place on Jan. 27, 2022 was the murder of 19-year-old Damond Price on the 4800 block of Lorelly Avenue. As police arrived at the scene, they found Price with multiple shot wounds, and he later died at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center due to his injuries.
