Western District Officers Open Investigation into Shooting Homicide

On Aug. 26, at approximately 11:02 a.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Ashburton Street to investigate a call for a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers observed 61-year-old Anthony El-Shabazz suffering from numerous life-threatening gunshot wounds. Medics who were on scene attempted life-saving measures but sadly pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert for the 2700 block of Strayer Court. Officers canvassed the area and did not locate a victim.

Officers were then advised that an unidentified male was scene fleeing from the scene on foot, entering a residence located on the 2700 block of Mosher Street. This individual is believed to be a possible suspect regarding this incident.

Homicide detectives with the Baltimore Police Department were notified and the SWAT Team has been dispatched to the location.

The SWAT Team later cleared the location, and a suspect was not located. The barricade has concluded. Homicide detectives have assumed control over this investigation.
