On Aug. 4, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn set a hearing date in mental health court date for a 44-year-old defendant accused of murdering his fiancee after three previous postponements.
Judge Phinn set a mental health court date for defendant George Kuhn, represented by defense counsel Tara G. LeCompte, for Oct. 4 with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin presiding.
As previously reported by Baltimore Witness, Kuhn says he was stabbed 15 times in the back and the head while incarcerated over the past 14 months. Kuhn had a brain tumor and suffered a concussion from an assault right before the incident he was charged with on June 12, 2022.
As stated on the Maryland Judiciary website, Kuhn is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime and firearm possession with a felony conviction.
According to court documents, on June 12, 2022, police received a phone call from Kuhn who stated he shot his fiancee 36-year-old Kristy Helmert in the face while she was driving her car on the 6400 block of Erdman Avenue. Upon arrival, police found Kuhn in the victim’s vehicle and apprehended him. His sneakers and tank top were covered in blood. His sneakers were seized from him, but he refused to remove his tank top.
