On June 23, a 45-year-old defendant charged with murder in 2021 was scheduled to have his retrial in November.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled a three-day retrial for defendant Levar Cooper, represented by defense counsel Michael Tomko, on Nov. 6 with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Martin P. Welch presiding.
As previously reported by Baltimore Witness, in September, Cooper’s previous trial for the May 10, 2021, murder of 43-year-old Larry Alvin Randall, Jr. ended in a mistrial.
As stated on the Maryland Judiciary website, Cooper is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle on a public road and firearm possession with a felony conviction.
According to court documents, on May 10, 2021, an officer was dispatched to the 1100 block of Washington Boulevard for a shooting incident and observed the Randall suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, which he later succumbed to.
Witnesses identified Cooper in video footage during police interviews. Cooper was seen pulling up in a 2015 black Mercedes and exiting the vehicle with a semi-automatic gun in his right hand. Cooper then approached Randall and shot him many times before fleeing the area in the same vehicle.
