On June 23, a 29-year-old defendant charged with homicide in 2022 had his case postponed due to a clerical error that put the trial on the docket for today instead of in August.

The assigned prosecutor informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn that no plea offer was available to give to defendant Darries L. Sommerville and his defense counsel Natalie Finegar

The prosecutor added that she was waiting on DNA evidence and had scheduled an upcoming meeting with the victim’s family members.

Judge Phinn postponed the trial to begin on Oct. 17 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Paul E. Alpert. The trial is expected to last three days.

As stated on the Maryland Judiciary website, Sommerville is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction and having a handgun on his person.

According to court documents, on July 31, 2022, Baltimore Police Officers were dispatched to the 33010 block of Lake Avenue for the call of a shooting. The 30-year-old victim, Trevon Williams, was later found suffering from a gunshot wound to the head on the 3500 block of Mannasota Avenue.

Surveillance footage shows Williams meeting Sommerville at the intersection of Bel Air Road and Erdman Avenue. As they were walking, Somerville pulled out a handgun from the inside of his jacket while Williams continued to walk. Seconds later, observers witnessed Sommerville fleeing the scene on foot from the area where Williams was found suffering from the gunshot wound.
