A Baltimore man whose trial was scheduled for Oct 18 was sent back to reception court to be heard before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
The defendant was scheduled for trial on Tuesday before Judge Dana M. Middleton, but due to the prosecutor not being ready and the lack of witness availability the case was sent to Judge Phinn for rescheduling.
The prosecutor informed Judge Phinn that her witnesses would not be available until Oct. 26.
John Brown Jr. is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, having a handgun in a vehicle on a public road, carrying a handgun on his person, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, and three counts of illegal possession of a regulated firearm in connection to an incident on Aug. 6, 2020.
According to CBS Baltimore News, officers were called to the 2400 block of Etting Street at 10:30 p.m., for reports of shots being fired. When they arrived they found 31-year-old Yohannes Carr suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
It was reported that the victim died at the scene. The motive behind the shooting is unclear, police said.
Judge Phinn scheduled the hearing to resume tomorrow before Judge Middleton at 2:00 p.m either on Oct. 19 or 20.
