A 43-year-old Baltimore woman accepted a plea of 20 years for second-degree murder on the morning of her trial on May 2.

Teresa Henry-Cooper was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm during a violent crime in connection to an incident that occurred on Oct. 29, 2020.

Initially, on July 28, 2021, the defendant was offered a plea of life, suspending all but 50 years, with five years on probation for first-degree murder, and 15 years for use of a firearm  during a violent crime, to run concurrently, which was rejected by the defendant and her defense attorney Anne Stewart-Hill.

Judge Melissa Phinn scheduled Henry-Cooper’s trial for Oct. 26, but it was postponed and was supposed to begin on May 2, when the defense counsel accepted the new plea before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones

According to the State’s Attorney Press Release, Henry-Cooper fatally shot her husband, Stephen Cooper, following an argument between the couple.
